Why You Need a 4 Week Touch Up and What a Yearly Refresh Does
Permanent makeup is built in stages, so your first appointment is the start of the process rather than the end of it. Most clients have an initial appointment, a touch up about 4 weeks later, and a refresh once a year. This guide explains what each step does and why it matters. It covers microblading, powder brows, nano brows, lip blush, eyeliner and dark lip neutralization at HD Beauty by Val in Bedford, serving Halifax and the surrounding area.
Permanent Makeup Touch Ups at a Glance
Initial appointment: Val designs your shape and shade
4 week touch up: refines your shape and color once the first round of healing has settled
Yearly touch up: refreshes your color so your results keep looking natural
Available for: brows, lip blush, eyeliner and dark lip neutralization (4 week)
Why Permanent Makeup Needs More Than One Appointment
Your skin does a lot of work after your first appointment. As it heals, it flakes, loses some color and changes color, moving from dark to light before settling into its intended shade. Everyone’s skin heals differently, so color holds differently from person to person. The 4 week touch up gives Val the chance to see how your treatment healed and perfect it. To know what to expect while you heal, read our eyebrow aftercare guide and lip blush aftercare guide. If you are not sure whether something you see is normal, read Is This Normal? Flaking, Color Change and Fading.
What Happens at Your 4 Week Touch Up
About 4 weeks after your first appointment, Val looks at how your treatment has healed. She then refines your shape, fills in any areas where the color did not hold evenly, and adjusts your color if needed. Plan on about 2 hours for brows and lips and about 1 hour for eyeliner and dark lip neutralization.
Choose the touch up that matches your treatment:
4 Week Brow Touch Up for microblading, powder brows, nano brows and combo brows
4 Week Lip Touch Up for lip blush
4 Week Eyeliner Touch Up for permanent eyeliner
Dark Lip Neutralization 4 Week Touch Up for dark lip neutralization
Booking early gives you the best choice of dates.
How to Prepare for Your Touch Up
Follow the same pre-care guidelines as your first appointment: no Botox or chemical peels within 4 weeks, no waxing for 3 weeks, no Retin A or strong skincare products near the treatment area for a week before, no alcohol or blood thinners for 24 hours, and no caffeine for 2 to 3 hours before, with something to eat. Find the full list in our guide to preparing for your permanent makeup appointment. After your touch up, follow the same aftercare steps you used the first time.
What Does a Yearly Touch Up Do?
Over time, permanent makeup fades gradually, and sun exposure and your skin type affect how quickly. A yearly touch up refreshes your color and keeps your results looking natural. Many clients book one once a year, and Val will advise you based on your skin and your results.
